1. Previous Meeting
The Minutes of the last Committee Meeting, which was on Monday 16th March 2009, were produced and approved.
CB reported on the current finances of the Society. We have £14,711 in the bank of which £10,859 is in current account and £3,852 on deposit.
The figure of £14,711 is made up of (a) £3,276 of retained members funds, (b) the hole in fund of £334, leaving (c) a society balance of £11,101. Of this, £5,050 represents deposits paid for the Welsh Tour in June. £2,000 (of the £11,101) is currently allocated to the 2012 overseas tour fund.
A review was undertaken of members who have not paid their 2009 subscriptions. These are Simon D'Arcy, Neil Gordon, Mike Lee, Colin Milligan and Jeremy Whittle. These payments will be chased up by individual committee members.
Likewise it was noted who has not yet paid their Welsh Tour balance. RJ will follow those concerned up.
RL has circulated to the committee, by email earlier today, his promotional literature for the West Country tour over the weekend of 11th to 13th September 2009. JS will now circulate this to the members.
As the literature explains, St Mellion has now been totally refurbished with new hotel accommodation, bars and restaurant. The Old Course has also been changed to the Kernow Course with certain holes having disappeared and new ones replacing them.
The tour will revert to the "traditional" format of starting at Launceston. Sunday will again be Woodbury Park. The cost of the tour will be £325.
The tour is already looking as if it will be well attended. A rough head count is already projecting numbers in the region of 20 to 25, with a high number of WAGS tour debutantes and guests.
There was some discussion about the Tandridge fixture in April, and the relatively low attendance. It was agreed that in future years, the Dearden Decanter will not be scheduled at one of the more expensive courses, in order to maximise attendance. Points were also made about the timing of the Tandridge fixture given its proximity to the Byfleet fixture and also it being in the Easter holidays.
There was a broader discussion about whether the Society should underwrite the cost of one expensive fixture per season. No conclusions were reached at this stage and it was agreed to continue to discuss this issue at future committee meetings.
It was agreed that JS will send out a reminder to the membership about the Lingfield fixture which is on Friday 22nd May.
Mike Wells is cut one shot from 16 to 15 following his victory at Tandridge.
MB reported that he will bring a supply of umbrellas (the 2009 item of merchandise) to the Lingfield fixture, and will continue to distribute these to those attending the event.
JS reported that all new members have now signed up to the website save for Rob Faulkner.
